As the Sillees River meanders its way towards Lower Lough Erne it passes through Ross Lough, settled in a hollow amongst drumlins. This is a large limestone lough 4 miles south of Enniskillen on the A509 Belturbet road, a little south of Ballanaleck village. It has been cleared of coarse fish and is stocked with brown and rainbow trout-some of which grow very big indeed. It has given some really excellent fishing in recent years. The once vast peat bogs on the hills to the south of Lower Lough Erne have been extensively planted with conifers. Now only a few small patches remain; each is a significant example of a now rare habitat. Although still recovering from the fires in the mid 1970's Lough Naman bog is relativley undisturbed. This is a small lough on the Fermanagh - Donegal border. It is approached off the B136 Belleek-Pettigo road. Take the by road to the north 2 miles west of Pettigo and one and a half miles along that road there is a forest road to the lough with a car park by the shore. The trout here average a half lb and rise freely. An average catch should produce 3-4 trout and it is possible to get fish hee up to about one and three quarters lbs.
